About Real Black Music Videos

The idea for my blog, 'Real Black Music Videos', stems from my frustation at watching / listening to the same music videos every day - most of which say nothing. Most mainstream black music videos today bore me, but more importantly they scare me. I, like many, think about the young minds that watch these videos and the negative images they see. But don't get me wrong, I know it's not all bad and I want our young people to continue to express themselves through dance and song, but at the same time I want them to be exposed to more. Beyond the many illusions of what money can bring, they need to know what's going on in the world. And unfortunately running one India.Arie video every few months, just isn't going to give them the type of insight needed to inspire more Black People to motivate and help ourselves.

Fortunately, from Alternative Hip Hop to Neo Soul there are many artists that speak to our struggles, our insecurities, and our dreams giving us lyrical lessons and spiritual revelations. Unfortunately most of these artists get little air time, which is sad because we have so much mind music that can move us as well as inspire us to be better and what better in our lives. It seems a shame that we only get to see the most superficial levels on Black Music / Hip Hop culture on a daily basis.

That being said, I figured the internet was a great place for me to help flip the script and promote some of our other talented artists. Because though it is often hard to believe by adults and young teens alike, positive hip hop and quality black music still exists today. Perhaps I can get you tripping off my mind music into a world you never knew exisited.

Food for thought:
What is Alternative Hip Hop?
What is Neo Soul?
